The Good And Bad Of Having Artificial Grass Installed
The use of artificial grass or turf has started to become a popular option for many homeowners nowadays. It has made vast improvements from the carpet like material that was featured at the Houston Astrodome, and can offer some real advantages under the right circumstances. On this page, we take a look at the good and bad of having artificial grass installed. Advantages
The main reason for putting in an artificial turf is because it requires much less upkeep and work than a normal lawn. Think about it, you won’t have to spend any time mowing, fertilizing, pulling out weeds, and trimming. The grass you installed is the grass you’ll keep. Of course, these artificial grasses can start wear down, but it definitely takes a lot of time for this to occur assuming you chose a good turf. This would definitely be a nice asset to have. No more having to worry about when to fertilize your lawn and constantly checking the weather channel for rain in the forecast. Your lawn is always mowed and you can create time for other things. Another advantage is you will save money on things like water, weed killer, and fertilizer. You also won’t be spending cash to run and keep up on the repairs of your mower. Now, the installation of turf is very expensive and we don’t necessarily have the equation figured out as to how long it would take to earn your money back through the savings you make. Be our guest on figuring that one out! One more advantage of having fake grass is that it drains very well. You won’t have large puddles, and the kids can always go out and play on it without fear of a giant mud pit. Disadvantages We did say that a synthetic lawn would take far less maintenance, however, that does not mean that there is no work to be done at all. Typically, these turfs come with a rubber cushion underneath which may have to be replaced every once in a while. Also, this grass can get dirty and may require an occasional washing with a spray hose to keep it looking its best. Nothing major, but we just wanted to let you know that there is some work involved. Another downfall of artificial grass is it has a tendency to really heat up during the summer time. Grass is usually known for giving a nice cool feeling under your toes, but with turf, you may want to keep your shoes on. The last disadvantage is you sort of lose the essence of having a lawn. This is just our opinion, and we know we are grass freaks. Think about it though, the pride you take in having a freshly cut, thick, green lawn. Nothing can beat the smell of freshly cut grass. As much of a pain that it may be to take care of your lawn, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing it prosper, knowing that is a result of your hard work. Feel free to explore your options and figure out what is most practical for your home and lifestyle. We won’t hold anything against you if you decide to go with synthetic, and we will be ready to make your lawn beautiful if you go the natural route! |
